was informed today by a friend in South Africa that Ray Phiri had
passed away. He was a beautiful, masterful guitarist and an inventive
musician. He will be remembered as a patriot who used his music to fight
apartheid and brought that message to the world. His contribution to
'Graceland' was immense and I am grateful and honored to have worked

... let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not yet seen the nightfall -- JRR Tolkien [Fellowship]
Normally I wouldn't share this (photo taken July 4, 2017) but if I read one more goon saying "Graeme is doing badly" I'm going to reach through the screen and slap them. Gray looked like he was in decent shape when I saw him on the west coast, and I enjoyed his quieter marimba work back there, people weren't paying attention if they didn't catch it. (Just saw Jones Beach video too, and same story, he's back there doing just fine.) Yeah his role is cut back, he said himself that he is recovering nicely but tends to slur his speech, so it wasn't going to work in the show. Psychologist hat on now: with rest and taking care of himself and STOPPING THE F-ING SMOKE he'll be just fine. The brain is a marvelous thing if you just don't abuse it and it will recover within reason. They are taking a slower pace, and that is good for ALL of them. Anyway.... this is a sight I'm familiar with and some of you too I bet, both my parents went through this stage. A long time. Poor Joni. She smoked too. Joni is a polio survivor, and I hope she is surrounded by kind people.

You think the Moodies' fan base is weird? You should read some posts on the Doors FB. Morrison would have been proud of those.
